The Rt. Hon. Hajjati Lukia Isanga Nakadama, Third Deputy Prime Minister and Woman Member of Parliament for Mayuge District, has urged communities and leaders in Bugweri to ensure that government programmes translate into tangible improvements in household incomes, infrastructure and social services.
Hon. Nakadama made the remarks during the thanksgiving ceremony for Hon. Wandera Sadala, Member of Parliament for Bugweri Constituency, held in Bubenge Village, Igombe Sub-County, Bugweri District.
The Third Deputy Prime Minister used the occasion to emphasise accountability in the implementation of government programmes, warning both beneficiaries and officials entrusted with public resources against misuse or diversion of funds. She stressed that government interventions are intended to create sustainable economic opportunities and improve livelihoods and should therefore be used strictly for their intended purposes.
“No one should play around with government programmes because they are meant for development and socio-economic transformation. We must ensure that these programmes benefit the people for whom they are intended,” Hon. Nakadama said.
She further warned individuals who misuse funds provided to beneficiaries, saying public resources should never be treated as personal property.
“I want to warn those who misuse funds meant for beneficiaries. These funds are provided to help our people improve their livelihoods, and they must be used for the intended purpose,” she said.
Hon. Nakadama also highlighted road infrastructure as a critical driver of economic activity in Bugweri, particularly for the movement of people and agricultural produce. She pledged to follow up on road concerns affecting the area and called for improved connectivity to support economic activity.
“I have pledged to follow up on the road to Nondwe for tarmacking because good roads are important for the development of our communities,” Hon. Nakadama said.
She also raised concerns about the delayed completion of the Bugweri District headquarters, stressing the importance of completing the project to improve the district’s capacity to deliver services to residents.
Hon. Nakadama urged those responsible for implementing government projects to remain committed to their work and cautioned against abandoning projects after public resources have been committed.
“I have talked about the district headquarters, and I will continue to remind the President that it needs to be completed. Those handling government projects should remain committed until the projects are completed,” she said.
The Third Deputy Prime Minister also called for support to schools facing infrastructure challenges, particularly those in need of roofing materials. She urged Hon. Wandera Sadala to engage the Office of the Prime Minister to explore assistance for schools in poor condition.
“I also request Hon. Wandera Sadala to write to the Office of the Prime Minister so that schools in poor condition can receive roofing materials such as iron sheets,” Hon. Nakadama said.
The remarks by the Third Deputy Prime Minister placed accountability, infrastructure development, education and effective utilisation of government programmes at the centre of Bugweri’s development agenda.
Her participation in Hon. Wandera Sadala’s thanksgiving ceremony brought together national and local leaders, religious and community figures, as well as residents, in recognition of the MP’s service to the people of Bugweri.
Hon. Nakadama urged leaders and residents to take collective responsibility for ensuring that government programmes, infrastructure projects and public investments translate into improved livelihoods and better services for the people of Bugweri.
