The Government of Uganda has launched Postcom, the country’s first national e-commerce platform developed by Posta Uganda, in a move aimed at expanding market access for local entrepreneurs and accelerating digital transformation.

According to an official statement, the platform is designed to support the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) initiative while enabling Ugandan businesses to access both local and international markets through digital trade.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance said Postcom aligns with the government’s Digital Transformation Roadmap (2023/24–2027/28), which was unveiled in 2023. She noted that the platform will play a critical role in enabling Ugandans to market and sell their products beyond national borders.

“Postcom perfectly reflects our digital transformation agenda. It is a significant step towards enabling every Ugandan to participate in online trade,” the Minister said.

The platform provides a national online marketplace where users can buy and sell goods, with Posta Uganda facilitating last-mile delivery across the country. Officials said the initiative effectively transforms post offices into one-stop centres for marketing and distributing locally produced goods.

The Minister emphasised that the platform presents a major opportunity for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to reach wider markets. She added that increased access to customers is expected to boost household incomes and improve livelihoods.

“This innovation will expand market access and improve incomes. We encourage all Ugandan entrepreneurs to take advantage of this platform,” she said.

Postcom is also expected to enhance Uganda’s competitiveness by integrating e-commerce into everyday business activities. By prioritising locally made products, the platform will further strengthen the BUBU policy and position Ugandan goods more favourably in global markets.

According to the statement, the platform promotes inclusive digital growth by ensuring that businesses in rural areas can also participate in online trade, supported by Posta Uganda’s nationwide delivery network.

The Minister commended the Board and Management of Posta Uganda for spearheading the initiative and called upon ministries, departments, agencies and the private sector to embrace the platform.

“This is a national solution that will transform the way we trade. It offers Ugandans an opportunity to innovate, connect and prosper,” she said.

The launch of Postcom marks a major milestone in Uganda’s digital journey, underlining the government’s commitment to building a modern, inclusive and competitive economy driven by technology.
