Prime Minister Rt.Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has called on Members of the 12th Parliament to support the government’s development agenda by enacting people-centered legislation and strengthening oversight to accelerate Uganda’s transition to a middle-income status.
She made the remarks while addressing Members of Parliament Induction Seminar at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. The Induction programme is designed to equip legislators with the knowledge and skills required to effectively execute their constitutional mandate and contribute to national development.
Rt. Hon. Nabbanja commended previous Parliaments for their continued support in advancing Government programmes and policies under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. She noted that the cooperation between Parliament and the Executive has been instrumental in delivering key legislative reforms and implementing initiatives that have transformed various sectors of the economy.
“The partnership between Parliament and the Executive has enabled Government to implement programmes that have improved the lives of Ugandans and laid a firm foundation for sustainable development,” she said.
The Prime Minister highlighted Uganda’s graduation from the category of Least Developed Countries to lower middle-income status as one of the country’s significant development milestones. She attributed the achievement to sustained investment in strategic sectors, sound Government policies and the successful implementation of national development programmes.
She noted that substantial progress has been registered in infrastructure development, agriculture, education, healthcare, industrialisation, energy and information and communications technology, all of which have contributed to economic growth, improved service delivery and enhanced livelihoods across the country.
Rt. Hon. Nabbanja urged Members of the 12th Parliament to build on these achievements by supporting legislation and policies that promote inclusive growth, attract investment, create employment opportunities and improve the welfare of Ugandans.
She further emphasised the critical role of Parliament in promoting transparency, accountability and effective governance, noting that constructive engagement between the Legislature and the Executive remains essential for achieving the country’s long-term development aspirations.
The Prime Minister also encouraged legislators to put national interests above partisan considerations and work collectively towards delivering quality services to citizens. She said Parliament’s legislative, representative and oversight functions are vital in ensuring that Government programmes are implemented efficiently and produce tangible results for the population.
The induction seminar provides an opportunity for newly elected Members of Parliament to familiarise themselves with parliamentary procedures, governance structures and national policy priorities as they prepare to commence legislative business.
Uganda continues to implement its national development agenda with a focus on economic transformation, wealth creation and sustainable development. The Government remains committed to strengthening collaboration with Parliament and other stakeholders to ensure that development programmes deliver meaningful and lasting benefits to all citizens.
