President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has witnessed the signing of a landmark agreement between Uganda Airlines and Boeing for the acquisition of 10 new aircraft, marking a major step towards expanding Uganda’s aviation capacity and strengthening global connectivity.
The signing ceremony, held at State House Entebbe, was attended by senior government officials, representatives of the United States Embassy, members of the Uganda Airlines Board of Directors, and Boeing executives. The deal includes eight passenger aircraft and two cargo freighters: a Boeing 767 wide-body converted freighter and a Boeing 737 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF).
President Museveni commended the partnership, describing it as a strategic investment in Uganda’s future. He noted that the expansion of Uganda Airlines would boost trade, tourism, and investment, while positioning Uganda as a key aviation hub in the region.
“This milestone reflects our commitment to strengthening Uganda’s aviation sector and enhancing global connectivity,” he said.
The acquisition is expected to significantly increase Uganda Airlines’ capacity to serve regional, continental, and international markets. Officials noted that the expanded fleet will directly contribute to the attainment of Uganda Vision 2040 and support the country’s aspiration to achieve sustainable middle-income status.
The investment is also expected to drive growth in priority sectors, including agriculture, tourism, minerals, and services, by improving access to global markets and enhancing connectivity for both business and leisure travel.
Boeing Vice President of Sales, Anbessie Yitbarek, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Uganda Airlines’ growth ambitions.
“We are committed to supporting Uganda Airlines through technical expertise, training, and capacity-building initiatives that are critical to sustainable success,” he said.
Uganda Airlines expressed appreciation to President Museveni, the Government of Uganda, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Boeing, and the airline’s management and negotiation teams for their invaluable support in advancing the initiative.
Officials described the agreement as the beginning of a long-term partnership between Uganda Airlines and Boeing that will strengthen Uganda’s position in regional aviation and contribute to the country’s broader economic transformation agenda.
