President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the strong partnership between the Church and Government, saying it continues to play an important role in Uganda’s social and economic development.
The President’s message was delivered by Beatrice Akello Akori during the official opening and dedication of the Life Restoration Ministries sanctuary in Nansana–Bujjuko. The event brought together religious leaders, government officials, and members of the public.
In his message, President Museveni noted that while the Church is mainly responsible for the spiritual growth of its followers, it has also made a big contribution to community development. He said many churches are involved in projects that improve people’s lives, including education, health, and support for vulnerable groups.
He also called on religious leaders to guide believers to live balanced lives. According to the President, people should not only focus on spiritual matters but also work to improve their living conditions. He encouraged Christians to engage in productive activities that can help them earn an income and support their families.
The President referred to the example of Jesus Christ, who, besides preaching and praying, also worked as a carpenter. He urged church leaders to use their platforms to encourage followers to work hard and fight poverty in their households.
President Museveni further repeated his message on wealth creation, saying it is important for every Ugandan to take part in improving their income. He explained that while the government provides services such as roads, peace, and security, individuals and families must take responsibility for creating wealth and jobs.
He pointed out that a section of Ugandans is still engaged in subsistence farming and called for more efforts to help them join the money economy. He highlighted commercial agriculture, industrialisation, services, and information and communication technology (ICT) as key areas that can create jobs and improve incomes.
During the event, the President also recognised the efforts of Kenneth Kato Mwesigwa for leading the construction of the new sanctuary. He thanked Robert Kayanja for promoting good relations between Pentecostal churches and the government. As a show of support, the President contributed UGX 30 million towards the project.
Speaking at the same event, Pastor Kayanja praised the President for maintaining peace and stability in the country, saying it has created a good environment for both worship and development.
Pastor Mwesigwa also thanked the government for recognising the role of the Church not only in spiritual matters but also in community support, youth empowerment, and charity work.
The dedication ceremony was marked by prayers, gospel music, and messages from different religious leaders. The speakers emphasised the importance of unity between the Church and Government in building strong and self-reliant communities. The event highlighted how cooperation between religious institutions and the state can support national development, especially at the grassroots level, where both play a key role in improving people’s daily lives.
