The Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs (Defence), Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, has commended the cordial relationship between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Uganda, particularly in defence, security, trade, and investment.

“The partnership between the two sister countries has grown stronger over the years and has been further cemented by a Memorandum of Understanding defence cooperation executed by the two sister countries on 10 July 2021. The MoU provides the framework of cooperation with the defence and security sector,” said Hon. Nyirabashitsi.

Minister Nyirabashitsi made the remarks during a meeting yesterday with Ms. Katerina Sequensova, the Director General for Non-European Countries, Economic and Development Cooperation of the Czech Republic, at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters, Mbuya. She expressed confidence that the bilateral relations between the two countries will stimulate growth, development, and prosperity, beneficial to the people of both countries. She also called for further cooperation in other areas like health, infrastructure, and agriculture development.

Ms. Kateřina Sequensová expressed appreciation for Uganda’s role in regional security matters. “Your efforts in stabilising the region are admirable. We understand that your country hosts a large number of refugees and the impact it has on housing, healthcare, and schooling,” She also emphasised the Czech Republic’s commitment to strengthening the relationship between the two countries, especially in defence.

Ms. Sequensová was accompanied by Ambassador Nicol Adamcová the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Uganda, Mr. Stephen Kaboyo, Mr. Jan Spiler, Chief of Intergovernmental Defence Cooperation Lt. Col. Borijov Jurenka, the Military and Air Defence Attaché and Mr. Vaclav Prasil, Director of Sub-Saharan Africa.

The meeting was attended by Commander Defence Ordnance Brig Gen Solomon Amanya, Chief Policy, Strategy and Planning Brig Gen Irumba Tingira, among others.
