KIBAALE: Responding to community needs and advocating for development programmes are central responsibilities of local leaders. In Buyanja Constituency, 140 political leaders and administrative officials are undergoing training intended to help them fulfil those responsibilities more effectively.

The Ministry of Local Government’s three-day induction began on Monday at Bwamiramira Sub-county headquarters, bringing together parish and sub-county councillors, chairpersons, sub-county chiefs and town clerks.

Robert Sendegeya, who heads the ministry’s facilitation team, urged participants to translate the lessons into practical improvements in how they serve their communities.

‘’Induction forms part of a nationwide programme to equip local government leaders with the knowledge and skills required to improve service delivery.’’ He said.

The sessions cover decentralisation policies, legislation, government wealth-creation programmes, mindset change and effective leadership, subjects that shape how leaders carry out their duties and respond to public concerns.

Participating councillors and chairpersons said the training would strengthen their ability to advocate for development programmes and address community priorities.

Sendegeya encouraged them to participate actively and apply what they learn in carrying out their responsibilities.
