Every year, Uganda’s skyline reaches a little higher. New housing estates, commercial buildings and public infrastructure continue to reshape towns and cities across the country. Yet behind the construction boom lies a growing challenge: how to build affordable, resilient and environmentally sustainable communities that can meet the demands of a rapidly urbanizing population.
In search of answers, Uganda is bringing together local and international innovators, architects, engineers and construction experts at the 5th Uganda Buildcon International Expo, a platform the government says will showcase technologies and ideas capable of transforming the country’s housing and construction sector. The expo will run from August 6 to 8 at the UMA Showgrounds in Lugogo, Kampala.
Speaking during the official announcement of the expo at the Uganda Media Centre, Commissioner for Human Settlements Dave Khayangayanga, who represented the Minister of State for Housing Hon. Persis Namuganza, said the exhibition is intended to connect global innovations with Uganda’s construction needs while promoting sustainable urban development and improving the quality of the built environment.
The expo, was organised by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in partnership with Buildcon, Exhibition and Trade Services India PVT (ETSIPL), FUTUREX and Lanestra Enterprises (U) Ltd, and will feature more than 100 exhibitors from Uganda, India, China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, France, Turkey, Germany and several other countries.
The expo is under the theme, “Global Innovation, Local Solutions: Shaping the Future of Building & Construction in Uganda.”

The exhibition will showcase advances in architecture, engineering, building materials, construction machinery, prefabricated structures, building automation, renewable energy solutions and other technologies designed to improve efficiency and sustainability across the sector.
The event comes as Uganda implements the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV), which places increasing emphasis on sustainable infrastructure, planned urbanisation and improved housing.
For contractors, investors, architects, developers and homeowners, the expo offers an opportunity to explore innovations that could influence how buildings are designed, constructed and managed in the years ahead.
Beyond the exhibition floor, the Ministry will use the event to highlight key policies and initiatives shaping the sector, including the National Housing Policy, National Urban Policy, the Physical Planning Act, the Digital Land Information System, energy efficiency guidelines for buildings and condominium development frameworks. The first 100 visitors each day will also receive free land title searches, bringing one of the Ministry’s most sought-after public services directly to the exhibition.
More than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the three-day event, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, investment and partnerships across the construction value chain.
As Uganda’s urban population continues to grow, the conversation is shifting beyond constructing more buildings to creating communities that are smarter, greener and built to withstand the future.
The Buildcon International Expo is expected to offer a glimpse of how innovation, technology and collaboration can help shape the next chapter of Uganda’s housing and construction story.
