Uganda has stepped up efforts to promote its tourism and cultural heritage on the global stage, unveiling a vibrant pavilion at the Tourism Plus Expo 2026 in Shanghai, China.

Operating under the theme “Pearl of Africa, the showcase, organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Beijing, is running from 29 to 31 March. It offers visitors an immersive experience of Uganda’s rich cultural diversity, natural attractions, and growing tourism sector.

The Ugandan pavilion has drawn significant attention from international attendees, featuring a curated display of authentic products, handmade crafts, and culturally significant artefacts. These exhibits provide a glimpse into the country’s traditions while highlighting the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of local artisans.

Visitors have also been treated to lively performances by Ugandan cultural dancers, whose energetic displays celebrate the country’s diverse ethnic heritage. The performances have attracted large crowds, adding colour and vibrancy to the exhibition space while reinforcing Uganda’s image as a culturally rich and dynamic destination.

Officials at the Embassy underscored the importance of the Expo as a strategic platform for strengthening Uganda’s tourism and trade relations with China and the wider international community. They noted that participation in such global events is key to positioning Uganda as a competitive and attractive destination for travellers and investors alike.

“This Expo provides a valuable opportunity to showcase Uganda as a premier travel destination, known for its unique wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality,” embassy representatives said.

Uganda is widely recognised for its diverse tourism offerings, including national parks, mountain gorillas, and scenic landscapes, which continue to attract visitors from across the world. By participating in international exhibitions such as the Tourism Plus Expo, the country aims to further raise its global profile and tap into new tourism markets.

Officials added that the exhibition also serves as a platform to engage with global tourism stakeholders, including tour operators, investors, and industry experts. Such engagements are expected to foster partnerships that can support the growth and sustainability of Uganda’s tourism sector.

The government has prioritised tourism as a key driver of economic development, with ongoing efforts to increase visitor numbers, promote cultural heritage, and enhance the overall visitor experience. Initiatives such as international expos play a critical role in marketing Uganda’s unique attractions to a wider audience.

As the Tourism Plus Expo 2026 continues, Uganda’s participation is expected to not only inspire potential travellers but also open up new avenues for investment and collaboration. By showcasing its distinct identity on an international platform, Uganda is reinforcing its position as one of Africa’s most compelling tourism destinations.
