The SOPs are intended to promote safe learning environments while minimising the risk of Ebola transmission within educational institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese guidelines provide practical measures for administrators, teachers, learners and parents to ensure early detection, prevention and appropriate response to suspected Ebola cases within school settings,\u201d the Ministry stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the key preventive measures introduced are mandatory handwashing at school entrances, classrooms, dormitories, dining halls and toilet facilities. Schools are also required to conduct temperature screening at entry points and restrict access to individuals displaying symptoms associated with Ebola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, learning institutions have been directed to regularly disinfect classrooms, dormitories, school vehicles, dining facilities and frequently touched surfaces in order to reduce the risk of infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SOPs further discourage physical contact such as handshakes and hugging, as well as the sharing of personal items among learners. Schools have also been advised to improve ventilation in classrooms and dormitories and strengthen proper waste management practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry clearly outlined the responsibilities of various stakeholders in implementing the guidelines. School administrators are required to establish isolation areas for suspected cases, ensure the availability of supplies such as soap, sanitisers, thermometers and disinfectants, and maintain close coordination with nearby health facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teachers and school staff are expected to monitor learners for symptoms, reinforce hygiene practices and report suspected cases immediately to the relevant authorities. Learners have been encouraged to wash their hands regularly, avoid sharing personal items and promptly report any illness to school authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parents and guardians were advised to keep sick children at home, seek immediate medical attention for suspected Ebola symptoms and cooperate fully with health officials during investigations and contact tracing exercises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SOPs also provide step-by-step procedures for handling suspected Ebola cases within schools, including isolating the affected individual, notifying health authorities and parents, using personal protective equipment, restricting unnecessary movement and disinfecting affected areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional preventive measures include limiting non-essential gatherings, restricting visitors to school premises, strengthening hygiene in boarding schools, monitoring learners returning from holidays and ensuring safe school transport systems. Cafeterias and canteens have also been directed to enforce strict hygiene standards among food handlers and prevent overcrowding during meal times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry urged all schools and educational institutions to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the SOPs to safeguard learners, staff and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of the public were reminded of common Ebola symptoms, including fever, fatigue, chest pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, unexplained bleeding and red eyes. Suspected cases should be reported immediately to health authorities for prompt response and management.
