Kintu<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has signed a Transmission Service Agreement (TSA) with Gridworks LLP, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen Uganda\u2019s electricity transmission network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement forms part of the Amari Power Transmission Project, a partnership between UETCL and Gridworks, aimed at upgrading critical infrastructure to support reliable power supply, industrial growth, and greater uptake of renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of UETCL, Eng. Richard Matsiko, and Christopher Flavin, Chief Executive Officer of Gridworks, in the presence of the British High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Lisa Chesney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the signing ceremony, Eng. Matsiko described the partnership as both strategic and transformative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe view this partnership as strategic and transformative, and we look forward to the effective implementation and tangible improvements to the national grid,\u201d Mr Matsiko said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pilot project will focus on upgrading four major transmission substations located in Tororo, Mbarara North, Mbarara South, and Nkenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These upgrades are expected to play a vital role in strengthening the national grid, meeting Uganda\u2019s growing electricity demand, and creating employment opportunities during the construction phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gridworks CEO, Mr Christopher Flavin commended the Government of Uganda for its leadership and foresight in advancing the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are particularly grateful for the leadership, foresight, and constructive engagement shown by the Government of Uganda in bringing this project to this stage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Amari Power Transmission Project is firmly anchored in Uganda\u2019s broader electricity sector reform agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, following the amendment of the Electricity Act, new regulations were enacted to facilitate private sector participation in the refurbishment, upgrading, replacement, and development of transmission infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials noted that this agreement reflects the government\u2019s commitment to modernising the power sector and ensuring that Uganda\u2019s electricity network can support industrialisation and renewable energy integration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Diana N.
