The long-awaited project marks a significant step toward addressing the region\u2019s persistent electricity challenges and driving economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $83.75 million project, financed by the Islamic Development Bank, will serve several districts, including Ntungamo, Rukiga, Kabale, and Rubanda. These are areas that have long struggled with power outages and instability. The line was officially switched on December 21, 2024, offering much-needed relief to businesses and households alike. Residents and local leaders believe this development will open opportunities for industrialization and enhanced service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni underscored the project\u2019s transformative potential. <em>\u201cThis high-voltage substation is a game-changer,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;he said. <em>\u201cIt will boost industrialization, create jobs, and drive development in this region. Reliable electricity is a cornerstone of economic progress and this project brings us one step closer to realizing that vision.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond improving power supply, the project aligns with the government\u2019s broader strategy of enhancing infrastructure and promoting rural electrification.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/govinfohub.go.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_4767-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3405\" style=\"width:486px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/govinfohub.go.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_4767-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/govinfohub.go.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_4767-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/govinfohub.go.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_4767-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/govinfohub.go.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_4767-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/govinfohub.go.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_4767.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>President Museveni also emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, reminding the community of wetlands\u2019 critical role in hydroelectric power generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAs we celebrate this electricity, people must remember their role in conserving wetlands because the water used to generate power at Jinja comes from these wetlands through rivers like Kagera,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the people of Kigezi, the launch of the Mirama-Kabale power line is a long-awaited solution to years of unreliable electricity. Stephen Kasyaba, Rubanda District LCV Chairperson, expressed optimism about the region\u2019s future and called on residents to leverage the new power supply for industrial development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThis power station opens up opportunities for both small and large industries. It will spur development and improve livelihoods in our region,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;Kasyaba said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project\u2019s success is the result of a collaborative effort involving multiple stakeholders. Key partners include the Government of Uganda, the Islamic Development Bank, Colenco Consulting Ltd. (Nigeria), CCC-GTSCC Consortium (Nigeria), and Ceylex Engineering PVT Ltd.
