The Honorable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. John Mulimba, held a meeting with the newly appointed United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Representative for East Africa, Ms. Ashita Mittal. The UNODC Regional Office is in
Addis Ababa. The discussions, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, centered on the critical issues for Uganda in tackling the threats and impact of drugs and crime. The Minister extended the Uganda Government\u2019s appreciation to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for its ongoing support and collaboration in advancing global peace and security, human rights and development by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Mulimba expressed Uganda\u2019s readiness to collaborate with international development partners in the fight against drugs and crime, emphasizing the importance of finding African-led solutions to the challenges that continue to affect the region. He
highlighted the enduring commitment of Uganda to work in solidarity with its neighbors and global partners to achieve sustainable peace and security. The UNODC delegation, affirmed their steadfast support for initiatives aimed at promoting stability and development within Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n

The discussions underscored the shared vision between Uganda and UNODC in addressing the complexities of regional
security and the pursuit of lasting peace. The meeting concluded on a note of mutual understanding and a renewed commitment to deepening cooperation in areas of peace, security, and regional stability. Both sides agreed to continue their collaboration in addressing the pressing issues in Uganda concerning drug addiction, cyber-crime, human trafficking and to explore new avenues
for partnership in the pursuit of common goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
