The ministry is also mandated to manage public works, including government structures, and promote standards in the construction industry. The ministry is headed by a Cabinet Minister. The current Minister of Works and Transport is&nbsp;Katumba Wamala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It exists to formulate policies, plans, set standards, build capacity, carry out advocacy, regulate, monitor, and evaluate the works and transport sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry also provides policy and strategic guidance to parastatal bodies under its supervision, namely the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Standard Gauge Railway and Uganda Railways Corporation (URC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Works and Transport sector is a cluster of priority sectors of the economy comprising public building works, road, railway, water and air transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The headquarters of the ministry are located at the corner of Jinja Road and Old Port Bell Road, in Kampala Central Division, in the Industrial Area of Kampala, the capital and largest city in the country. The coordinates of the ministry headquarters are:0\u00b019&#8217;04.0&#8243;N, 32\u00b035&#8217;48.0&#8243;E (Latitude:0.317779; Longitude:32.596681).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Overview<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of July, the ministry is involved, through and with its affiliated entities, in several major construction projects, including the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Construction of the Entebbe\u2013Kampala Expressway. The 53 kilometres (33\u00a0mi) links\u00a0Entebbe International Airport\u00a0with Kampala Northern Bypass Road and with the Kampala neighbourhood of\u00a0Munyonyo, on the northern shores of\u00a0Lake Victoria.[2]\u00a0The expressway will have toll booths with limited access.[3]<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expansion and improvement of Entebbe International Airport. The multiphased expansion is slated to last until 2033 and involves the expansion of the cargo terminal, construction of a new passenger terminal building, construction of new fuel storage facilities, building a new multi-story car park, construction of a new control tower and strengthening and resealing of current runways.
