With a mandate to resolve disputes, interpret the Constitution, and protect human rights, the Judiciary is committed to evolving and improving its services to meet the needs of Ugandans. The primary responsibilities of the Judiciary include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Administering justice in civil and criminal matters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting the rule of law and human rights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Licensing and disciplining legal professionals, including advocates and court bailiffs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implementing training programs for judiciary staff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing alternative dispute resolution (ADR) modalities to ease court burdens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Headed by the Chief Justice, supported by the Deputy Chief Justice and Principal Judge, the Judiciary operates within a two-tier system comprising various court levels, including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court, and Magistrates&#8217; Courts. The Chief Registrar and the Secretary to the Judiciary oversee judicial and administrative functions, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a> To improve service delivery, the Judiciary is committed to strengthening a People-Centered Justice, Law, and Order Sector (JLOS) by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Implementing a Bill of Rights and a human rights-based approach.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhancing business processes to promote private sector development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensuring functional and accessible JLOS service points across the country.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focusing on gender equality and equitable access to justice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthening informal and transitional justice mechanisms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhancing legal advisory services and regulating the legal profession.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthening anti-corruption efforts within the Judiciary and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Judiciary also aims to clear court award arrears and reform laws to foster competitiveness and regional integration, particularly in commercial and land dispute resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Judiciary embraces reform and innovation, its commitment to justice, efficiency, and human rights remains unwavering.
