- The Embassy of Uganda in Italy, Rome was opened in 1987 to promote bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Uganda, Italy, and ten other accredited countries. The embassy was also opened to act as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uganda to the UN-based Agencies in Rome (IFAD, FAO, and WFP).

Consular Services
The embassy offers a comprehensive range of consular services designed to assist Ugandan citizens residing or traveling within its jurisdiction. These services include:
- Passport Services: Facilitating passport renewals and issuing new passports to Ugandan citizens.
- Visa Facilitation: Processing visa applications for foreign nationals seeking to travel to Uganda.
- Legal Support: Providing legal assistance and guidance to Ugandan citizens facing legal issues in the host countries.
- Emergency Assistance: Offering support and assistance to Ugandan citizens in emergencies, such as accidents, illness, or loss of travel documents.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE
- To promote commercial or Economic Diplomacy including the promotion of Foreign Direct Investments, trade and tourism.
- To promote and safeguard Uganda’s interest in UN Rome Based Agencies of FAO, WFP, and IFAD including International Organizations and NGOs.
- To strengthen and expand Uganda’s bilateral relations, including the provision of diplomatic, protocol, and consular services as well as mobilization of Uganda’s diaspora and enhancement of Uganda’s public diplomacy.
- Engage countries of accreditation to be supportive of Uganda’s Regional and International Political, Peace, and Security initiatives. To strengthen the institutional capacity of the Mission.

The embassy operates Monday to Friday (09.00 to 13:00 and 14:15 to 16:00). The Embassy is closed on both Italian and Ugandan public holidays.
MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2021/22
In 2021, significant strides were made in strengthening business ties with Slovenia. This included organizing a business delegation visit from Slovenia scheduled for January 2022. The delegation aimed to foster networking and training opportunities, particularly in beekeeping, facilitated by the Slovenia Beekeeping Academy. These initiatives were part of the broader engagement at the 59th Fair of International Agriculture and Food AGRA Expo in Gornja Radgona and subsequent business-to-business meetings held from August 19th to 26th, 2021.
The Uganda Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in the Italy-Africa Conference, advocating for developed countries to commit to funding climate change initiatives. The visit also provided opportunities for the Minister to engage with Italian business leaders regarding investment prospects in animal husbandry, agro-processing, and renewable energy sectors.
In November 2021, medical equipment for dialysis laboratories at Mbarara Hospital was shipped to Uganda, thanks to the Meridian Association of Bari, Italy. This donation significantly enhances the hospital’s capabilities in treating kidney-related conditions.
Uganda-Serbia Bilateral Engagements
An official visit by the Ugandan Minister of Foreign Affairs to Serbia resulted in the strengthening of bilateral relations. Notable outcomes included the signing of a donation agreement for 40,000 doses of Vaxzevria Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccines from Serbia to Uganda. Additionally, Serbia granted ten scholarships for Ugandan students in fields critical to Uganda’s development.
The country enjoys a stable political and investment milieu that is open to development patterns in the region and beyond. The Republic of Italy is one of Uganda’s trading partners, a top importer of Uganda coffee, and is keen on doing business with Uganda, which each Embassy is a ready bridge. This is similar to other countries of Embassy’s accreditation where mutually beneficial Memoranda of Understanding, Trade Agreements, and Cooperation frameworks have either been signed or negotiated.
