President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the long-standing partnership between Uganda and China, describing Beijing as a dependable ally that has played a significant role in supporting Uganda’s socio-economic transformation over the years.
The President made the remarks on Thursday during a meeting at State House Entebbe with Mr Losang Jamcan, the Special Envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who represented the Chinese leader at President Museveni’s recent inauguration ceremony held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
During the meeting, Mr Losang conveyed warm congratulations from President Xi to President Museveni following his re-election and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Uganda.
“His Excellency President Xi Jinping asked me to represent him at your inauguration ceremony and convey his heartfelt congratulations upon your re-election,” Mr Losang said.
He noted that relations between Uganda and China have continued to flourish under the leadership of the two heads of state, adding that the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations remains strong.
Mr Losang further said that China is ready to deepen its collaboration with Uganda in key sectors, including infrastructure development, trade, technology transfer, industrialisation, agriculture, and investment.
He emphasised China’s commitment to aligning development strategies with Uganda in order to promote mutual growth and contribute to broader cooperation between China and African nations.
In response, President Museveni thanked President Xi for sending a high-level delegation to attend his swearing-in ceremony and asked Mr Losang to convey his greetings to the Chinese leader.
The President commended China for its remarkable economic progress and its continued support towards Africa’s development agenda.
“We have had a very strong relationship with China for many years. China supported African countries during the anti-colonial struggle and continues to support development efforts across the continent,” President Museveni said.
He also applauded China for investing in infrastructure projects in Uganda and expanding trade opportunities for African countries.
President Museveni reiterated Uganda’s commitment to maintaining strong bilateral relations with China, noting that both countries share common interests in development, sovereignty and economic transformation.
He said Uganda remains committed to working closely with China to expand practical cooperation in various sectors that directly benefit citizens of both countries.
The meeting comes at a time when Uganda continues to strengthen partnerships with global allies aimed at boosting industrial growth, improving infrastructure and expanding international trade opportunities.
