The Office of the President has commended Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and other government representatives for their teamwork and resilience during Uganda’s recently concluded general elections, crediting their coordinated efforts with contributing to President Museveni’s decisive victory.

According to official communication from the Ministry of the Presidency, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni secured a seventh term in office after winning 71.65 per cent of the vote in the 15 January 2026 polls. He defeated seven other candidates in what government officials described as a peaceful and well-managed electoral process.

The commendation was delivered during a virtual meeting convened by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, Hajji Yunus Kakande. The meeting brought together RDCs, Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), Deputy RDCs, Assistant RDCs, District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) and their deputies to review their performance during the election period.

Mr Kakande praised the discipline, unity and dedication demonstrated by the officials across the country. He noted that the strong coordination between district leadership structures, security agencies and local communities ensured stability and continuity of government operations throughout the electoral period.

“The unity exhibited by local leaders greatly eased the work on the ground and directly contributed to national stability,” Mr Kakande said, according to the ministry’s statement. He added that their collaboration helped maintain a visible and effective government presence at community level, thereby reinforcing public confidence during a politically sensitive period.

Officials at the meeting emphasised that the collective effort of the RDC structures and security agencies played a significant role in safeguarding peace and order, which they said created an enabling environment for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and its national chairperson to secure a landslide victory.

The officials were, however, reminded that their current term of office remains valid until the President is formally sworn in, and that government business must continue uninterrupted. They were urged to remain fully engaged in supervising and monitoring key government initiatives, including the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, programmes aimed at boosting household incomes and promoting socio-economic transformation.

The meeting further cautioned participants against malpractice, including corruption, land grabbing, abuse of office and actions that may create divisions within communities. They were encouraged to strengthen collaboration with accountability institutions such as the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to ensure effective service delivery and the rule of law.

“As Uganda begins a new political term, we count on your continued dedication as we consolidate peace, accelerate development and move the country forward,” the meeting underscored.

Officials seeking renewal of their mandates were advised to conduct themselves professionally and responsibly, avoiding internal conflicts, public accusations, blackmail and the spread of rumours. Emphasis was placed on maintaining discipline and focusing on national development priorities.

The session was attended by Brigadier General Henry Isoke, Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit; Mr Mugabe Robert, Director of Political Affairs at ISO; the Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Madam Chelimo; representatives from the DPP’s office; and various heads of departments and agencies.

The statement was issued through an official social media post by the Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, on 18 February 2026.

With the election concluded and preparations under way for the President’s swearing-in ceremony, government officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, strengthening accountability and advancing national development programmes in the new term of office.
