President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has formally received the official declaration confirming his re-election as President of Uganda, pledging to prioritise poverty eradication, national unity, and disciplined governance during his new term.
The declaration form was presented to President Museveni by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) at his country home in Rwakitura. In his acceptance remarks, the President thanked God, the First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni, and the NRM membership for their support, crediting the victory to a collective effort by party leaders, national institutions, and ordinary citizens.
“I want to thank the NRM members and all the leaders because they all played a critical role in this victory,” President Museveni stated, also acknowledging the contributions of the armed forces, religious leaders, and cultural institutions in maintaining peace throughout the electoral process.
Reflecting on voter engagement, the President noted that approximately 10 million registered supporters did not cast their vote, urging the party to examine the reasons behind the low participation. He emphasised a return to the founding principles of the NRM, citing renewed unity and stability in regions that had previously experienced conflict.
President Museveni highlighted government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and skilling hubs, asserting that these programmes have restored hope among Ugandans, while acknowledging the need to address uneven implementation across the country. He pledged to intensify efforts to eliminate household poverty, support wealth creators, and expand free education, healthcare, and anti-corruption measures.
On matters of security, President Museveni warned against isolated acts of violence linked to political extremism. He stressed that peace is maintained not only by security forces but by citizens themselves, urging groups allegedly collaborating with foreign interests to abandon violence. He reaffirmed his commitment to national stability, noting that a secure environment is essential for economic and social development.
Looking ahead, the President outlined economic priorities including agriculture, manufacturing, and private sector growth. He confirmed that Uganda’s oil production is expected to commence this year, adding that revenues from oil will be invested in long-term national assets such as railways, power stations, and science education projects, rather than being distributed for short-term gains.
The First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni, congratulated the NRM family on the electoral victory, urging party leaders to remain faithful to God and recommit themselves to guiding Ugandans with integrity. Other senior leaders, including Vice President Jessica Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, praised President Museveni’s leadership and the party’s strong performance in the elections, pledging continued support for government programmes.
The event was attended by members of the NRM Central Executive Committee as well as several religious leaders, who participated in thanksgiving prayers and reaffirmed their commitment to national development and unity.
President Museveni’s acceptance of the re-election declaration signals the commencement of a renewed term in office, with a clear focus on economic transformation, social welfare, and maintaining national cohesion. Analysts note that the President’s emphasis on long-term infrastructure and human capital development reflects a strategic approach to consolidating Uganda’s growth and stability in the years ahead.
