The Electoral Commission of Uganda has commenced the packing of Presidential ballot papers in preparation for the 2026 General Election, marking a key step in the country’s election logistics process. The exercise, aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability, was conducted in the presence of representatives from various political parties and candidates.

The Commission emphasised that involving stakeholder witnesses is central to reinforcing public confidence in the electoral process. By allowing party and candidate representatives to observe the packing of ballots, the Commission seeks to ensure that all materials are securely prepared, accounted for, and protected well ahead of polling day.

“This exercise is an important part of our preparations for the 2026 Presidential Election. It demonstrates our commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive participation throughout the electoral cycle,” the Commission stated. “By involving witnesses from political parties and candidates, we are reinforcing trust and confidence in the integrity of the election process.”

Electoral experts note that the packing of ballots is a routine yet critical phase in election management. It ensures that all ballot papers are correctly printed, securely stored, and accurately accounted for before distribution to polling stations across the country. Any errors at this stage could have far-reaching consequences, making careful handling and strict oversight essential.

Representatives from political parties and candidates expressed appreciation for the Commission’s transparency efforts, describing the exercise as a demonstration of professionalism and accountability. Observers noted that active participation by stakeholders helps minimise disputes and fosters confidence in the electoral framework.

The Commission also urged all stakeholders to engage through established official channels to address any concerns or questions. “We encourage political parties, candidates, and the general public to follow the procedures set by the Electoral Commission. Open communication and adherence to official channels are vital for a transparent and credible election process,” the Commission added.

Preparations for the 2026 General Election are already underway, with logistical planning covering printing and distribution of ballots, training of polling staff, and ensuring security at all levels of the electoral chain. The Commission has reiterated that the priority is to conduct a free, fair, and transparent election that reflects the will of the Ugandan people.

Experts also highlight that transparency initiatives, such as the witnessed packing of ballots, are crucial for fostering democratic governance. By providing a clear and accountable process, the Commission helps build public trust, reduce election-related disputes, and strengthen the credibility of the overall electoral system.

As the country approaches the 2026 General Election, the Electoral Commission continues to stress its commitment to upholding the principles of integrity and fairness. Stakeholders and citizens alike are encouraged to actively participate in the process, adhere to official guidelines, and support efforts to deliver a credible and peaceful election.

The packing of Presidential ballots represents one of the visible milestones in Uganda’s electoral preparations, signalling the Commission’s readiness and diligence. With continued engagement from political actors and close monitoring of the electoral process, the nation moves closer to a smooth, transparent, and well-organised General Election in 2026.
