The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party has announced that elections for the National Executives of the Youth and Entrepreneurs Leagues, along with party flag bearers for Youth Members of Parliament, will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

The decision was reached by the party’s 5th Central Executive Committee (CEC) during its inaugural sitting at State House Entebbe on September 13, 2025.

In a major departure from past practice, the elections will be decentralised and conducted across all 151 NRM districts. Delegates are expected to convene at their respective district headquarters, with voting beginning at 9:00 AM. The process will use the lining-up method, where delegates queue behind their preferred candidates or their representatives.

According to the party, all logistical arrangements will be handled by the NRM Secretariat. Delegates will receive allowances, while a circular from the National Treasurer will provide details on financial support, including honoraria for participants. The NRM Electoral Commission and Directorate of Legal Services will also issue regulations and guidelines to ensure transparent and orderly elections in line with CEC directives and the NRM Elections Tribunal.

Only delegates from specific categories will be eligible to vote. These include NRM Members of Parliament representing the youth, district and municipal executive committee members of the Youth and Entrepreneurs Leagues, sitting NRM youth councillors at district and municipal levels, sub-county youth league chairpersons, and members of the NRM National Executive Committee for the two leagues.

The elections, initially deferred during the National Special Interest Groups Conferences, have now been brought closer to the grassroots. District party leaders have been urged to ensure discipline and smooth conduct, with strict instructions to avoid any involvement in campaigns or activities that could undermine the process. Their role will be restricted to administrative support and monitoring.

In a statement, NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong wished all participants peaceful and civil elections, while reiterating the party’s commitment to fair and transparent internal democracy.
