The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Eng. Richard Matsiko as the Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. This decision was made during the Board’s ordinary sitting on Thursday, 24th July 2025, following the resignation of Mr. Joshua Karamagi, CFA, from the CEO position.
The Board accepted Mr. Karamagi’s resignation and expressed gratitude for his contributions during his tenure. Under his leadership, UETCL achieved significant milestones, including the completion of key infrastructure projects such as the Gulu-Agago 132kV and Kole-Gulu-Nebbi-Arua 132kV transmission lines, developing UETCL’s 5-year Strategic Plan, setting a roadmap for the company’s growth.
Eng. Richard Matsiko brings over three decades of experience in Uganda’s electricity sector. He started as a Trainee Electrical Engineer at Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) on 1st March 1991 and then was promoted to Deputy CEO from the Principal Protection Engineer position.
He Chaired the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Committee, a critical role in Uganda’s energy sector, and oversaw the construction of the new UETCL Tower (Head Office Building) on behalf of the Board.
In the official notice signed by Mr. Kwame Ejalu, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, the Board, extended gratitude to the outgoing CEO and called for support from the new Acting CEO: “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank Mr. Joshua Karamagi, CFA for his significant contribution to UETCL. Please join the Board in congratulating Eng. Matsiko and wishing him success in his new commission.”
The appointment marks a new chapter for UETCL as it continues to oversee Uganda’s electricity transmission infrastructure. The Board has expressed confidence in Eng. Matsiko’s leadership during this interim period.
