NMS RECEIVES A DONATION OF ANTIMALARIAL MEDICINES FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF CHINA

The Government of the People’s Republic of China has donated an assortment of three different antimalarial medicines, worth Shs 4b, through the Chinese Anti-Malaria Emergency Humanitarian Aid to strengthen bilateral health cooperation. This include; Artesunate for Injection (20,800 boxes, Artesun), Compound Artemether Tablet (80,000 boxes, CometherTM), Compound Dihydroartemisinin Tablet (391,200 boxes, Duo-Cotecxin).
Dr. Aceng received the medicines from HE. Zhang Lizhong, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Uganda at the National Medical Stores head offices in Kajjansi Offices on Friday, 5th April 2024. She further added that there has been an increase in the malaria cases, leading to an increase in demand for anti-malarial drugs, with some districts requiring four times the previously quantified commodities.

The Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng  revealed that the most affected populations include children under five years, pregnant women, people with immune deficiency conditions, and those in rural and hard to reach areas.
NMS will distribute the medicines to the public health facilities in line with the guidelines from the Ministry of Health
