The Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) has convened its Annual General Assembly 2026, bringing together stakeholders to reflect on four decades of service to vulnerable children and communities across Uganda.

According to the statement, the Assembly was graced by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, who represented the First Lady and Patron of UWESO, H.E. Janet K. Museveni.

The Assembly revisited UWESO’s founding mission, which began with a commitment to respond to the plight of children orphaned by conflict, poverty, and HIV/AIDS. Over the years, the organisation has grown into a strong national institution advancing child protection, education, and community empowerment.

“UWESO has consistently strengthened caregivers and community‑based structures, ensuring that vulnerable children are supported with dignity and hope,” the statement noted. Participants highlighted the organisation’s continued transition from dependency to dignified self‑sustenance, anchored in empowerment, skills development, and sustainable community systems.

According to the statement, stakeholders were encouraged to prioritise innovation in education, particularly bridging the digital divide and preparing young people for evolving opportunities.

The Assembly also emphasised the importance of resource mobilisation to ensure long‑term sustainability, while upholding values of integrity, accountability, and service in all interventions.

“Strong values must remain at the heart of UWESO’s work to guarantee that every child supported is given the opportunity to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development,” participants agreed.

UWESO was commended for its role in building the capacity, character, and confidence of Uganda’s children and young people.

According to the statement, the organisation’s interventions have helped shape a generation of resilient citizens who are better equipped to participate in the country’s socio‑economic transformation.

The Assembly reaffirmed UWESO’s shared commitment to ensuring that every child supported is given the opportunity to thrive.

“The journey from vulnerability to empowerment is a collective responsibility, and UWESO has demonstrated that communities can be transformed when children are given the tools to succeed,” the statement concluded.
