Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended warm congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan following her re-election and official swearing-in as President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The colourful inauguration ceremony took place on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the State House in Dodoma, attracting regional leaders, diplomats, and dignitaries from across Africa.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania’s first female head of state, secured a decisive victory in the recent presidential election, winning nearly 98 percent of the total vote under the banner of the long-ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.
Her re-election marks the beginning of a full constitutional term in office, following her initial assumption of leadership in 2021 after the passing of the late President John Pombe Magufuli.
In a statement shared on his official social media platforms, President Museveni congratulated President Samia and the CCM party, describing her victory as a testament to the Tanzanian people’s confidence in her leadership and development vision.
“I congratulate Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Party on her re-election as President of Tanzania,” President Museveni wrote.
“This victory reflects the confidence that the people of Tanzania have in her leadership and vision.”
President Museveni reaffirmed Uganda’s historic and strategic friendship with Tanzania, emphasising shared goals in trade, infrastructure, and regional integration.
“Uganda and Tanzania share historic bonds of friendship and cooperation,” he noted.
“I look forward to working with President Samia to further strengthen our partnership in trade, infrastructure, and regional integration for the peace and prosperity of our peoples.”
The two neighbouring nations continue to collaborate closely on major cross-border projects that are reshaping the region’s economic landscape. These include the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) — which will transport Uganda’s crude oil to Tanzania’s port of Tanga — and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project, aimed at boosting trade and transportation efficiency.
Political observers say President Museveni’s congratulatory message signals a renewed commitment to regional unity within the East African Community (EAC). Uganda and Tanzania have remained pivotal players in regional peace, security, and economic development initiatives.
President Samia’s leadership has been widely praised for promoting inclusive growth, gender equality, and cross-border cooperation. Her re-election is expected to further stabilise Tanzania and strengthen the momentum of East African integration efforts.
As both Uganda and Tanzania embark on new phases of development, their shared commitment to economic transformation and regional solidarity continues to shape the future of East Africa.
President Museveni’s reaffirmation of partnership with President Samia underscores the enduring vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated East African Community — a goal that both leaders have consistently championed.
